[week five - wednesday]

[ Well.

.... well.

Xion's got a lot on her mind when she seeks out Percy. She's made a decision - and given what she knows, or she thinks she knows, she wants Percy to know it, too. Besides, maybe he can ... help her, too. Maybe he knows things she doesn't.

So it's with a sense of purpose that she finds him, and doesn't really waste any time on preamble. ]

Hey, Percy? Can we talk?

Mhm. [ She sighs through her nose, considering at length. ] ... can you tell me ... what roles you know about? If you know who they are, you don't have to tell me that part.

[That's a little bit of a harder question, Xion. There's a considerable pause as he debates what he can tell her...but it's Xion. She has a right to know.]

We all know about the Coal Miner. There's two of those. But there's the Deputy, the Doctor, the Madame, the Bartender, and five others. [Another pause.] The five all belong to the same group. Do you know what the name of that group is? [It's clear that he does.]

Five...

[ That's the part that seems to throw her off. ]

Those are all different from what I know, except maybe the last one. What are they called, Percy?

[Fuck.]

Before this goes any further, I need you to confirm something with me. You know about the roles in this game, but you didn't know about any of the ones I named?

... everything I know was told to me by people who have those roles. So ... no.

[ She glances up at him, concerned, wondering what she's missing. Do they ... not know the same things? If so, it's a good thing she came to talk to him, but at the same time, how has she been missing so much? ]

[...wait a minute.]

Xion. Did you meet someone called a Bounty?

... so you do know.

[ A beat, and: ]

Sort of. But... is that not what you meant before?

[Well. Way to be a moron, Percy.]

I'll explain everything I can, but this is really, really important. What do you mean "sort of"?

... the Bounties have a leader. That's the person I spoke to. He thought ... I already knew a Bounty, but I didn't.

[ She seems troubled. ]

...[A sigh of relief. But his tone also lowers.]

You mean Damian. You spoke to Damian. [Holy shit don't scare him like that!!!!!] Right?

He came to find me after Riku's trial. [ that's a yes. ] He thought Riku was a Bounty, but Riku never had a role. He told me.

I can see why he thought that. Riku had some information he probably shouldn't have had even if it was taken the wrong way. [There's another pause.]

I've known about the leader since our second week here. He came to me because he thought I was one, too. I've been trying to help him as much as I can over the last couple of weeks.

... do you ... mean Damian? Or ... the other leader?

[ just. wanting to be sure, bro. ]

Just Damian. We don't know who the other leader is. I've been trying to find them, too.

Me too! [ she abruptly bursts out. not loud, just frustrated. ] But I haven't gotten anywhere. If anyone I've talked to knows, they're doing a good job keeping it secret.

[ :/ ]

... Damian scares me a little, but I want to help him.

[Just. Tightening his grip around her a little. Shush tiny child, it's okay.] That's the name of the game, Xion. The Bounties are supposed to keep quiet. I think all of the roles are, actually, which makes this even worse.

Damian's a pretty scary kid, but he's good. He's been chosen for a reason, so we have to help him as much as possible. What else has he told you?

I know, I know. It just ... sucks.

[ she learned that

But his question produces a silence. ]

Nothing else about the roles. He only told me he was the Bounty Leader to get me to trust him.

[ She's, like, aware of that. It did work. ]

Mostly we've been talking about how to end the game.

[A light snort.] "Sucks" doesn't even begin to cover it.

[He's proud of you, fellow Disney.] Depending on when you talked to him, he might not have known either. I didn't mention it to him until really recently when I found out.

What have you guys come up with in the way of ideas to end the game?

Well... first he told me he thought this world might be a pocket of space and time. I don't ... really know what that means, but I do know that there's a lot of things about this world that are strange. Like how there's no one here but us and the Sheriff, or how nothing ever changes. The other idea we talked about was this place being virtual reality. If that's true, though, there has to be a way to hack it. Something we just haven't figured out yet.

[ A frown. ] Damian thinks the answer might be in the mines, but...

[ You know. Obvious roadblocks. ]

...someone told me that the first one is right. We exist in a pocket of space and time that doesn't really exist, even though all of us exist. That's exactly why the world's weird. I found out yesterday.

And don't you dare go in the mines. Either of you. You saw what happened to the girls that already went in there.

[ Just. Stares at him for a moment, and then ... huffs. ]

No wonder this world feels so weird.

[ Not that she can feel anything particular or special. Any powers that could let her do that are gone. This was purely instinct telling her something was off. ]

It's all too ... mechanical. Like it's all a big machine instead of a real place.

Anyway, I wasn't going to go in the mines, Percy! [ looks offended ] There's no way I'd survive, and I don't want Damian to go, either.

[A crooked smile.] Things make a little more sense, huh? I was confused until it was explained to me, too. No idea what to do with the information now that we have it, but it's out there.

And good. Make sure you keep Damian away, too, I've been trying to get him not-killed for a few weeks now. I'm afraid of what else might be down there.

If it's a pocket, then someone made it. And if there's a way in, there has to be a way out, right? It's all ... artificial. None of it's real. There has to be some way to undo it, or find a way to ... break it somehow, right?

[ she's ... dreaming big. ]

As for the mines... it's just too dangerous. Even if I had all my powers and I wasn't hurt, I'm not sure I could survive down there. I wish we could find out for sure what is there, though. Maybe it'd help us learn something.

You're right, but the real question is what's outside of the pocket? Do we want to go out there? Would we survive if we broke it?

[Questions for the ages.]

I don't know if it's something you want to learn, Xion. If whatever's down there could hurt both Natalie and Seizaburo it might be best to leave it alone. I wish we could find out, too, but at what cost, you know?

If we all got our powers back after we broke out, I could take us anywhere! [ ... ] Well, not really anywhere. But I could get us somewhere safe. [ Another pause, and in a mutter: ] I could fix my leg, too.

[ SIGH.

She'll glance up at him when he poses all those hypotheticals, but she doesn't seem to much relent. Just tucks her head against him and kind of harrumphs, honestly. ]

No, I want to know. I definitely want to know. But you're right, I don't want to get hurt doing it, and I don't want anyone else to get hurt, either. I wonder if we could trick the Sheriff into telling us.
